converting crappy roadie to fixed

hey guys

the roadies are too concerned about lycra and carbon to answer my question

can i convert my, otherwise normal, roadie frame to a fixed, obviously single speed is simple, with the appropriate kit.

also would the small ring of a compact chainset be OK for dealing with london, if i use a small sproket?
