SRAM 8 speed setup

So I've bought some of the upgrades I posted about a few days ago - thanks to those that replied to previous post.
But a bit worried bought the wrong thing!
Went with SRAM 8 speed to fit to my Giant SCR3 which has Sora STI shifters and Tiagra rear mech. Bought what I thought was a road 8 speed chain and cassette:
SRAM PC-68 chain
SRAM PG-850 11-28 cassette
When I've now had them delievered it has MTB on the chain, does it matter if its a mountain bike chain?
The casette box also has a little table and it lists the PG-850 11-28 under the Mtn heading instead of the road where it has 12-23 and 12-26.
Will these work on my road bike?
They are going onto some Fulcrum Racing 5 I have being sent to me next week. The shop I bought them from has said to run an 8 speed cassette I need a spacer and they will put that in.
Sorry if i'm being thick, not upgraded cassette before on road bike.
Please help!

Not sure if they will be
Just recounted the sprockets on existing casette, somehow when I counted at quarter past midnight there was 28 teeth...but now there is only 26...possibly quarter past midnight wasn;t the best time to count!
Also looked at the shimano website for the Tiagra rear mech http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/catalog/cycle/products/component.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441784196&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302050300&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181667&bmUID=1186087094799 and it says maximum teeth 27. So presumably it won;t shift onto the 28 teeth sprocket or will be unreliable maybe? Anyone know for sure?0 -
Sorry to be rude but this is a shameless bump! Does anyone know for sure if an 11-28 cassette will work with a Tiagra rear mech?0

It should work ok. Rear mech specs are usually conservative. I've heard of Campag mid cage mechs getting 32t rear sprockets ok. Your issue might me chain wrap capacity. What cogs are you running up front? Even this should not be an issue, but you should be very careful about using the big/big and small/small combos.0
