ok, ive had my bike a week and my crank came loose while out riding. Not much of a problem, so i rode to my LBS and got them to lighten it with a proffessional tool.

As i was on my way home after that the crank came loose again 5 mins after i rode away from the shop. "maybe the guy didnt tighten it enough" so when i got home i used my own allen key to tighten it. I tightened it as hard as i physically could.

Ive just been out for a ride now and 5 minutes into the ride it came loose once again.

I get the impression that the knut used to hold the crank onto the BB is too small maybe. Currently its a 8mm.

It seems like a simple problem, so does anyone have any idea what the problem actually is?

Please give me hand

When do you start at Halfords?!

Anyway, sounds like the crank itslef is worn. Take it off and examine the interface. if it worn, it will keep working loose.
  • I have got my induction tommorow.

But yeah ive done that, and the metal is abit warped. Doesnt look enough to come loose after 5 mins of riding, though i think that probably is the problem.

Guess i'll have to take it in tommorow, im not paying for a new crank arm after a week though!

    thanks, sonic

i got one from halfords and they said it was normal wear and tear. so i found an old pedal arm off my old giant and fixed it on. looks quite good and it doesnt come loose anymore! Also do it up until you hear it creaking.
  • i would get a new crank of my old bike aswel, but its not a allen key like my current bike.

But surely i cant have wear and tear after one week and maybe 2 or 3 rides? Also my bike was the store model so maybe they didnt tighten the crank enough.
