Does anyone know of a Heart Rate monitor/watch that also can do cycle speed, cadence etc AND will link with a MAC. I see Polar do several that do this but only with with PCs' And no silly comments about why I've got a Mac. It's better for my work and much easier to use (except in this case!) All prodcut recommendations welcome - what about nike?

  • I also use a Mac. You'd have to give me a couple of Colnagos to get me to go back to Windows at this point.

If you have a newish Mac with Intel processor then you can run Windows as well as Mac software. Look into Boot Camp and Parallels. Of course then you're back with the problems and ugliness of Windows.

As you said, some of the Nike models have Mac software. I tried it out and decided it wasn't really worth the hassle: too clunky and not enough data to make it worthwhile. But unfortunately I can't remember what model it was, and it was quite a while ago so the software has probably been updated since.
  • You'd think someone one have made one compatible by now without having to resort to Windows emulating software.

I'm running OS X - powerpc so no Boot Camp. Got a polar CS300 and cant do feck all with it!! Got in contact with polar about it and they said something along the lines of "We at polar wish to provide a multi-format service - up until recently we didn't think the demand from Mac users was worth our time. We're looking to resolve this in the near future. If you give us your e:mail we'll keep you posted with our software updates bla bla bla piss off mac scum".

  • iSmart train looks like just the job - is it basically just software that allows it to read through a Mac?

Still shiite that you're essentially having to pay twice for software to use your hrm. You're already paying for it when you buy the bloody thing! Guess 5% market share just isn't enough :(

The software that works with the Garmin Edge and Forerunner models works on a Mac - I have an Edge 305 and take info off it on a regular basis - the software (Garmin Training Centre) is basic, but you can get the files off the device for processing

The Garmin is an option for your needs, but can be a little buggy so might be more hassle than is necessary just for heart rate and cadence, but it's very handy.

Slight hijack, but Ed, if you have a Mac and a Garmin you MUST buy Ascent (google for ascent mac gps or similar) it's not very expensive and it's much better than the training centre software, the developer is actively working to incorporate suggestions and a demo is available.

Gotta agree with Ed and Simon I got a Garmin Edge 305 and although the traning centre software works with my Macbook it's rubbish so I downloaded the demo version of Ascent from here http://www.montebellosoftware.com and in my best Victor Kiam 'I was so impressed I bought a licence'.
