Replacing chain-does it mean a new cassette?

I get about 2500 miles per chain, 5000 miles per cassette, and 10000 miles per chainring (very roughly).
So I change my cassette every other chain. More frequently is too pricey for me; less frequently and it all gets hop-skippy.Wanted: Penny farthing. Please PM me!

Broke a chain end last year and put a new one on a cassette that had done 2000 miles
No problem , felt smooth , no noise, went ok
Chain now done 4000 miles so put new one on the old cassette. Not happy at all , rough and strange noises
Put on a new cassette , now all sweet and happy as a newly married couple ....
My suggestion is try new chain first, if it does not feel or sound tight , get a new cassette. Wait too long and you may need yet another new chain and cassettepedrootes0 -
If the new chain is skipping, then you need a new cassette. I left it too long to change my chain early in the year and ended up having to get a new cassette. So now I make sure I don't go over 2400 miles per chain.0
