Crank problem! Please help

Right I'm not sure but in the pictures in the links I think my cranks have lost a lot of metal from the inside teeth. Are they really bad? This is the second time I have taken them off in a year and a half. Is that expected? Should I replace them or if I continue riding will I screw up more of my bike?

Sorry for so many questions! I have only been riding a year and a half.

    They are very worn and will eventually keep working loose no matter how hard you tighten them. Then its time to relplace. The bottom bracket axle is hardened steel, so you wont damge that.

    Yer I have found that they have become lose. So all I need is a new set of cranks then and some grease?

    New cranks of same interface and follow the fitting instructions. May need new a new chain if it is worn (if getting new chainrings as well)

    Ok the crank set I have at the moment (the worn ones) are Truvativ Ruktion Howitzers. Do you recommend the same cranks again or should I look at the Shimano Hone or something else?

    If you get a none Howitzer crank, you will need a new bottom bracket. That said probably a wise investment, Hone is much better.

    Ok I will take it to a few shops and see what they can do. If not I will have to wait till I get a new 08 frame! It just needed to last a few more months. Dam.

    The problem here is that once that happens the fit between the splines is trashed by the force of you pedalling.

    When you get the new crank, make sure it's tight. If you don't have a torque wrench, buy or borrow one and tighten to the maker's recommended torque.

    It will probably surprise you just how tight cranks need to be.
