Post evidence of corruption at University Of Reading here.

Academic reports are peer reviewed & put the authors reputation on the line. You may not agree with the interpretation of the facts but the facts themselves are likely to be reliable in as far as they go. You generaly can trust acadmics to be trustworthy but then I am one and so would say that. Of course some say that all 'experts' protect their own interests & are therefore biased. Read the facts and make your own mind up - but do read the facts.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Damnit passout. Up to this point the only people who cared enough to post here were Rothers and Matt, so they might have well renamed the entire thread 'Pig wrestling with Rothers & Matt'. Spen had a point of order or two, and everyone else thinks they're barking mad. Now you've weighed in with an erudite opinion and upset the equilibrium.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

So, let me just catch up on this argument - correct me if i'm wrong, but as I see it a fair summary would be:
1) a guy who runs speed awareness courses at reading uni was found to have been encouraging speed enforcement
2) It was also found that he was concentrating his campaigning in areas where the amount the limit is typically exceeded by would necessitate the driver being sent on a speed awareness course
3) This is pointed out on the forum, and suggested that he could, just possibly, be doing it to line his own pockets
4) bimbly-wimbly-yusuf-rothbook throws his toys out because he loves speed cameras
5) Matt~BMX points out, correctly, that he's probably doing this targeted campaigning to fill his own coffers
6) bimbly wimbly gets a telling off for calling Matt~BMX a liar, and has his thread locked
7) bimbly wimbly isn't satisfied that people are convinced of the claimed impartiality of the speed awareness guy and starts a new thread demanding evidence of bias, which doesn't exist, despite the fact that it's obvious.0 -

Amusingly, I did actually suggest to rothers in a pm that he should edit the thread title to something similar.Wheelies ARE cool.

intimidation

are illegal acts all comitted generally by one group of society, shall we call them "scrotes", and often in tandem?
Do you remember my earlier example of statistical grouping?
I can hardly believe I've read that. Quite, quite incredible.0 -

To follow on from Simon...and apologies in advance for been half serious, but don't you think that 'scrotes', 'chavs' and other names for working class people (often teenagers) is the worst type of snobbery? I say working class, but underclass may be a more accurate description. Lots of people think that's it's acceptable to use these phrases, but isn't it just name-calling to the weaker members of society. Don't you think those people find it offensive to be described so - give them a chance. I'm not trying to be PC - just polite.

Obvious to whom?
This from the boy who suggested fighting global warming by evaporating the Med....and thus producing more greenhouse gas in the process!

I thought that I had made it quite clear that I was using the term "scrotes" to describe youngsters breaking the laws mentioned.
You give these people your respect? :roll:Wheelies ARE cool.

Have to agree here. There is a fundamental difference between referring to someone as a chav merely because of the way they dress, and referring to a young career criminal as a scrote. One is an assumption, the other an accurate description. If I had a stalker, I would hug it and kiss it and call it George...or Dick

What's wrong with describing them as criminals or in fact any generic swear word/insult? Chav & Scrote has class connations. You wouldn't call Lord Lucan (before he became a hippy in New Zealand) a scrote and he killed someone. For most people thre isn't a clear distinction between a scrote and a chav. Unless of course you think a scrote is just a Chav who gets caught? Both terms pigeon hole people. For the record - I'm not trying to defend criminals. But then most of the Chavs (and perhaps some of the Scrotes) you talk about aren't in reality criminals. Surely the only distinction that counts here is are you a law breaker or not? Class, background, accents and the way people dress shouldn't come into it one way or the other.
PS I have been known to wear peaked caps and timberlands and I've only ever been done for speeding (in my Escort XR3003iiiii).'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -

Chav may certainly have class connotations, but then it's a word I never use. Scrote is a word I've used for decades for any young anti-social criminal.
The people I was talking about are criminals, I just decided to use (and help define) the word scrote to describe them. Class has nothing to do with it, re-read my earlier post for clarification.
ps, I own some Timberland Chelsea boots, and they are extremely comfortable, albeit a little expensive.Wheelies ARE cool.
