can i still use this without buying a single speed cog set, if you look closly at the pic you will see i still have the 8spd cassete attached and dont want to buy the tool and cog i need to be a full on single speed as all i want is to be able to ride it asap without spending any more money!.

I would suggest the DMR singlespeed kit which has a tensioner rather like the one Nick suggested and the singlespeed sprocket and spacers you need.

    or

If you fancy a bit of bodging you can try breaking apart an old cassette and using one of the sprockets from that. You can use slices of PVC tubing as spacers to get the sprocket in the right place on the freehub for a decent chainline - lock them in place using the old lockring from the cassette. The only major drawbacks are that cogs on cassettes are designed for shifting so the chain is more likely to come off than with a singlespeed sprocket. Also they are thinner so there is a risk of the cog biting into the soft aluminium of the freehub. Might be worth looking into a singlespeed sprocket - try googling for the Shimano DX range.
