I got these and then quickly a second pair for my other bike

Quick release - I had the bigger delta ones before - and teeny tiny pedals too

A lot of folk on this forum swear by the new Ultegra pedals. Get a good write up in the press too. I'm looking to get a pair in future!

Look Keos are good (I have the Sprints and Classics). Easy to get in and out, good solid feeling of contact to them.

For rides when I expect to be walking about off the bike I use SPD - Shimano A520s mostly.

I like my Campagnolo Record pedals. Similar system to Look, but a big improvement IMO.

They have a metal section in the cleat (you retain this part when you change the plastic cleat base) which helps minimize wear. They are also very secure – I have never unintentionally pulled out the pedal when sprinting, whereas I had a couple of scary moments in the days when I used Look cleats – Campag are very reliable in this respect, even when the cleats are almost worn out. Also, because of titanium components and slimline design they are half the weight of my old Look pedals.

    I've got Shimano 105's

    One sided.

I prefer one sided in traffic, you can flick the pedal over if you don't want to clip in accidentally. It's a mistake you only make once!

Shoes, try them on, get a good fit. That's the most imoportant thing.

The cleats will fit, so it's not an issue.

I've been using PD M520s for about a year now on my roadie. Have been very pleased with them.

I got a Hardrock Pro a few weeks back and never thought I'd like being attached to a mountain bike. However, after my foot slipped a few times on the flats and made mincemeat out of my left shin, I put the M520s on my hardtail and ordered a set of the M540s for my roadie. Really happy with the setup now.

I've only had these on my bike for 2 days, and what a difference!! well worth the money.

I have the Shimano 105 5600 pedals and the Shimano RO74 shoes. Very happy with these, and both can be had for a good price. Many will say to always try shoes before you buy - personally I took the risk and bought from the internet. Worked out well for me, but maybe I was lucky.

The pedals are £29.99 on CRC (40% off RRP):

The 105s are "can't go wrong with these and no need to spend more unless you're seriously into racing" kind of pedals. I heard somebody got them new on ebay for £26.

The shoes I bought are £34.99 on CRC (36% off RRP):

Described as "performance recreational" by Shimano, these shoes look nice (though not a flashy racing look) and I've been very happy with them, though I'm not an expert! Wiggle has a Shimano shoe size chart if you want to take the risk buying from the internet - I used it and found it to be accurate. If your shoes dont fit, you can always send them back...

Aye that was me, I wasn't in a rush for the pedals, so I put a decentish bid of about £23 in, and just waited. Eventually bids went up to my max, but I got them. P+P was £3.50. Have a look on ebay, you might even be able to get them cheaper than me.

I recently changed to clipless for my 19mile commute home and decided to go with a double sided pair since I dislike having to flip the pedal first before clipping in - I sometimes find it difficult just to clip in full stop without this additional feat of podalic dexterity.

I went for some Shimano M520's - used them for 2 to 3 weeks and am quite happy with them: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3759

    Cheap and cheerful at £22.

Of course I then blew it by buying a pair of Sidi Dominators.
  • I got a pair of Ultegra 6620's and they are magnificent. Ribble currently have them at 44% off at £38.

  • I've used SPD's for 3 years and hav today bought look keo's. I've done 13 miles on them and I like them. I havn't obviously testd them for racing but am alrady impressed.
