Cycling in Thailand late September

Hi Everyone,
We need some advice please. My beloved and I are tying the knot in September and for our honeymoon we are off the Thailand to cycle from Chaing Mai to Bangkok. We are on this occasion taking a guided tour so luggage will be carried by a support van and accommodation is sorted for us. The question is have any of you got any kit recommendations? Primarily waterproofs and overshoe recommendations, bearing in mind Thailand that time of year could be wet but relatively warm.
Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge.
Cheers

Greetings from Bangkok. In Thailand we have three seasons - hot, hotter and wet!
High temperatures and humidity levels are experienced throughout the year. The country is hottest between March and May, and monsoon season runs from June to October. In September and October much of the country suffers from flooding, particularly in the north, north eastern and central regions. The cool season, most favoured by visitors, runs from November to February.- http://www.wordtravels.com/Travelguide/ ... d/Climate/
September rains tend to be late afternoon and when it rains, it certainly rains and you won't be cycling when it does. The rain, however, does not last long. Do you need waterproofs and overshoes? In my opinion, it will only mean that you have more to pack and more to take home! You'll will be wet with sweat anyway.
What else do you need? Tubes and tyres are available here - both 26" and 700c - your tour organiser should carry some. Sun cream SPF30+, you tour organiser should have arranged insurance but check with him. Energy bars, powder tend to be expensive and rare over here so if you have your favourites bring them with you.
If I think of anything else, I will post again and if you have any specific questions, I will be pleased to answer them.0 -
I would suggest SPD Sandals instead of shoes and overshoes. When in Thailand the last thing I would put on is a waterproof, just take shelter when it rains or just get wet, you wont die of hypothermia! If you have to keep dry, take the lightest most breathable waterproof available. I have never used one but the old style cycle capes might be good as they allow plenty of ventilation.
Also lots of suncream, a wide brimmed hat and a dark pair of shades.
You can travel fairly light as there are many roadside cafe's selling Thai food and bottled water. You will always get a a laugh and a smile.
Best of luck
PS mossie repellant would be handy for the evenings and if you dont have one of those saddles with a hole in it, take a packet of Immodium tablets.0 -
Thanks so far guys! The SPD sandals are a fab idea.
