I've been riding around for long enough with rubbish brakes.
It's time to treat myself. :o

I don't know much about which brakes to get and so would be grateful for any advice.
I do trail riding and a bit of downhill.
Can anyone help me?

    Its a Marin B17.

I really like it, but it came with hope cable brakes which have come to the end of their life!

Looking around the internet I can see shimano xt look quite good and have just spotted some avid juicy's which I will have to read more about.

I'm sure they will all be good enough but would rather hear about these things from peoples experience rather than a sales assistant.

What disc mounts do you have on the B17?

I switched from Shimano deore to Avid Juicy 5s,my only gripe is i should've gone for the juicy 7s!!!if you have the mounts go for the Avids.
