Tour of Britain

Stage 6 - disappointed that they have chose to cut over to crawfordjohn via the Sanqhar road. Would have been far better for spectators and telly coverage if they had went up through the Mennock Pass (I assume it is down to road surfaces not being up to scratch on the other [Leadhills village] side)0

I would actively boo Tyler Hamilton from the road side if that lying dope was to ride.0

But i don't think it's up to them don't the UCI say when and where things can happen? When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. ~H.G. Wells0

Given the size of the British market for several teams, it's a disappointing entry to have so few Pro Tour teams.
But year after year the riders seem to complain about safety, the oncoming traffic and poor finishes. At some point they weren't going to come back...0 -
The ToB is falling apart at the seams. We're lucky there's a race.
The field is poor but there is plenty of British interest. It's just that it's a glorified Premier Calendar-looking field rather than a national tour.
But when you consider the bloke in charge of booking the teams was 'sacked' a few months ago it's a miracle they've got any teams at all.
After the dangers of last year's race it was obvious the likes of Quick Step wouldn't risk their necks again but the absence of T-Mobile is mystifying. Must be because of the fall-out over the sponsorship.0 -
sorry if this has already been mentioned in teh thread (i have been skim reading)
Is anyone here cycling the Worcester leg, taking part in Ride the Route?0 -
Hello All
Happy to confirm that the Tour of Britain is alive and well and our seams are well and truly intact. This years Tour of Britain is the biggest so far and with an extra day of racing already announced for 2008 our the race is continuing to grow with the full support of the governing bodies of the sport nationally and internationally.
The growth of the sport in the UK and the increasing strength in depth of the domestic scene has enabled us to invite more teams than ever from these shores and we’re proud to give them the opportunity to show what they can do against teams that have ridden both the Tour de France (CSC, Barloworld, Agritubel) and Giro d’Italia (Tinkoff) this year. The Tour of Britain will continue to do this in order to support the sport in the UK as long as the teams continue to show they are up for the challenge
In terms of safety, the race this year will enjoy the support of a Multi Force Police Escort Team, a direct result of the hard work of our organisation and something that no sporting event in the UK has had since the late 90’s. We continue to work as hard as ever to ensure the safety of the riders and personnel of the race at all times.
Lastly, as a matter of record, there have been no sackings of any member of staff at the Tour of Britain in 2007 and to suggest so is totally inaccurate.
We proceed towards the 2007 race as a unified team and look forward to enjoying seeing and meeting as many of the true fans of cycling in the UK as possible this September0 -
Thanks for that ToB. I think we all hope its a great race this year and look forward to it being a regular, and increasingly popular, event.0

Is a "Multi Force Police Escort Team" the same as full road closures?0
-
it's the younger teams that make it exciting. last year was great to see t mobile, and cavendish as stagiare, and merckx, boonen, rogers etc, but also the great britain team and recycling, who are back this year.

I have never partaken in a forum discussion with an actual sporting event as opposed to a person making a post.
(Only kidding, thanks for the clarification)0 -

I'd rather it was a Premier Calender field than a bunch of pro-tour teams turning up for a training ride. At least you'd get some proper racing.0 -
It'll still be great. Think of the glorious weather this summer so far.0
-
We must be heading for an Indian Summer for sure!!!!Flying Scot? You must be joking!0
-
Yeah in India perhaps.0
-
Cancellara confirmed for Tour, that is good news... glad to see CSC willingly put in some good riders.
As for the Hamilton situation, I never knew of a dispute, thanks for clearing it up.0 -
There's more detailed team information up on the ToB website

Who was this, and why? What have they done to replace him?0 -
T-Mobile in the tour now, that is great news. Gerdemann, Cavendish and Hammond will all be riding. Now i'm tempted to go to Porlock Hill again...
What was all the fuss about, then?0
