right - im admitting defeat, my rear mech is out of adjustment (XT on a spesh rock hopper), and I cant get it to play nicely.

The bike is only a few months old, so i was expecting it just to be a case of cable tension and the like but...

a) the b-screw doesnt go in far enough to stop the cog touching in the lowest gear
b) if i set it up so it clicks nicely up and down the bottom five gears then its very unhappy in the top five (as if there's a mis match in mech to cassette - but obviously there isnt coz it was just fine a few weeks back)
c) its impossible to get the front set up so that the chain doesnt rub either at top or bottom

I'm at the point that I think that something might be out of whack - though again, its new, im fairly new to this, so it hasn't had a hard life. I'm reasonably handy with a spanner (built a couple of race car engines, so a bicycle isnt too tough :) and im following Zinn's book).

Anyway - i bought the bike from Evans, coz it was easy, but i dont really think they're the folk i would want to work on it... I'm based Marylebone way, so any recommendations for LBS types with decent mechanics that you'd trust to look at this stuff?

Anywhere out west to Hammersmith / Sheperds Bush, south to waterloo, north to Finchley, east to brick lane, i guess?

Thanks :)

jon

putney cycles have a very good customer service, all the people on the shop floor know what they are doing and the mechanic is very good!

anyone ever had work done at http://www.cyclopediauk.com/ ? they have a service section on their web site, quote prices, etc, so it would seem its something they take seriously (rather than evans say that pretty much just shift bikes...)

and they're closer that putney :)

monster, you could well be looking at it in to much detail. it is a very simple bit of kit.

have a read of the parktools version online below.

but first as it is qyite newi would have a chat with Evans.

also makesure that the hanger is not bent.
