Evans are selling the 2006 version of the Trek 6500 for £399.

The spec on this bike makes this looks a good deal even with the reductions on 2007 bikes starting to appear.
What do others think? Is there anything else I should consider for £400?
I want a hardtail primarily for urban community (11 miles) so have been looking for a light-ish bike with lockout and good gears - disc brakes are not so important in town (or so I have been led to believe). I will put some slicks on for speed.
Thoughts and comments gratefully appreciated.

Nice bike, but then I am a Trek fan. However for purely commuting you might consider a hybrid bike. Some of these have 700C wheels and rigid forks, which would probably serve you better on the road than a heavy locked out suspension fork. There is also the possibility of larger chainrings on a hybrid, a 44/12 ratio may leave you wanting more gears at the "high" end.
It is all personal preference though.
