Have just bought a set of o6 xtr brakes to fit on my hardrock, came to fitting front caliper and it looks a very tight fit for an adaptor. I have read the sticky and cant work out from that what adaptor i will need and im abit worried it might not fit at all!
Does anyone know of such an adaptor and where i can get one??
Im pretty desperate to get it sorted as im goin to wales next weekend and need my bike
cheers

have seen shimano adaptors on wiggle but they dont look like a correct fitment for my caliper, do all shimano calipers have the same adaptor/fitment?

its a post mount fitting, and 160mm discs, when offering up the caliper on the disc there seems to be so little room for an adaptor...

the picture is for a IS mount caliper. but ypu say it is post?

if post no adaptor just bolts on.

if IS get a bigger disc and a post to IS adaptor.

sorry i just meant that the forks are 6 inch post mount according to sticky, i can see that i need an adaptor but like i said before it just looks real tight.
plus bought the dual control levers, discs, and calipers in a set so surely i wont need a larger disc.

if you want to you your caliper then yes you will need a 180mm disc. and a adaptor to convert a post fork to IS caliper. (NB. not all of them will work with the Marz. post mounts)

or you sent the front brake back and get the post mount version. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=7927

thanks for all your help on this nick, right ive looked at both options and there is no adaptor available for my forks (abit annoying really but i should have checked first!) and the post mount version is apparently specific for manitou forks as it says here http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/p ... ncy&id=GBP
do you know if manitou/marzocchi post mount forks have the same dimensions ie is the post mount caliper actually gonna fit? i hope so

have just looked on shimano website and the tech drawings dont show any dimensions, it looks like it would fit but i dont wanna commit to buying something else i dont need until im sure its the correct part. Thanks in advance

    right,
the post mount caliper will not fit as its manitou specific and the adaptor available for a 170mm disc conversion wont fit marzocchi forks.
the next obvious step would be a 203mm disc but marzocchi spec says my forks cannot cope with discs larger than 170mm. but looking at the arrangement on the bike i cannot see any obstruction or reason why a disc this large cant be used, could you explain this to me if its true because i think its the last chance saloon for my new brakes and i need to order disc/adaptor asap so i can get it fitted for thursday.
Mucho appreciation once again for all the help its all abit of a learning curve for me!

Many manufacturers feel that a disc this large puts too much stress on the fork, rather than it been a clearance issue.

sorry bollock it will fit it is the same standard.

    post mount is post mpont.

buy it and bolt it onto the fork and use it with a 160mm disc and sorted.

AFAIK both forks run 74mm post mount. Manitou were 1st to use it and older info reflects this.
You should be able to use a PM to IS adaptor and 180mm rotor with no problems.
Or the PM brake with 160mm.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  • I have just fitted a hope Post mount to IS mount adapter to my Marzocchi AM I's, and there was a slight problem which I'll try to explain... (hard without pictures)

The bottom bolt hole for IS brake on the adapter hangs down between the tops of the post mounts on the fork. With standard square post mounts this isn't a problem as it is not obstructed, but on my Marzocchi forsk (All Mountain I) the post mounts have gradual, sloped, sides that hit on this section of the adapter causing it to not seat properly.

I had to get a metal file and shave about 1-2mm of the adapter off on one edge around the IS bolt hole, which may or may not be something you want to do.

I'm fairly sure most Marzocchi forks have the same style post mounts (perhaps someone can confirm this?), but I don't know if all adapters are the same shape as the Hope adapter (although I can't see hoe they can be much different).

Anyway, just thoguht it was worth mentioning my experiences, and hopefully the above makes sense...
