Hi,
I'm just stripping down my Shminano Freehub part number FH-M475
Exploded view below: (.PDF format)
http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/media/techd ... 608924.pdf
I'm struggling releasing the cap on the non drive side, (the disk brake side) so I can access the bearings.
Can someone help please?
Thanks
Pete

Yeh, I've been through this... it's not a cap... it's actually part of the hub body, so that's why it's hard to get off! it forms the outside of the bearing race.
I've generally used a small screwdriver to flick the bearings out (carefull not to damage the bearing surfaces, as they're pretty cheap hubs) and if they go through the middle of the hub, just poke them right through and out the other side...
i'd be interested if anyone's got any better techniques for doing this...
I've recently taken the alternative route out of changing ball bearings and bought wheels with cartridge bearings! much better...
i hope this helps!0 -
this might help http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=105"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

cheers shef - That's exactly what I ended up doing anyway... They're on a spare pair of wheels I'm selling - hence the strip down.
Thanks Nick for the link...get on your bikes and ride!0 -
I use a telescopic magnet to remove bearings from hubs. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0
