Carrier for Opel Zafir

Hi,

I have a clip - on bike carrier which clips on to the edges of the rear door, but I want one that allows the rear door to be opened (to take out a baby buggy) without removing the bike rack (ideally without removing the bike(s) from the rack either).

Any recommendations?

I think some of the tow bar mounted carriers allow you to open the boot when still attached.
  • The catalogues say they'll allow the boot to be opened but the door on a Zafira or other MPV is large and vertical, therefore swings out very far.

Anyone actually used one on this type of car?

    not a cheap solution.

Thinking of this or the 4-bike equivalent http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductPage____45840.aspx. It's about €150 inc VAT here in Irl

Mmmm nothing like mine. so cant comment. but having had something similar i will not be getting another hanging one. the bikes move too much and damage ensues.

  • I have this carrier on my Zafira mounted on a tow bar. It is very sturdy and I get good visibility out of the back window. Although there is a tip mechanisim you are not able to lift the tailgate with bike in place, but taking them on and off takes a couple of minutes if that. If I need to get to the boot I generally reach trough by tipping forward one of the rear seat squabs.

So it'll open if I just lift off the bike(s) and tip the rack, but not remove the rack from the towbar?
  • that is correct you do not even have to use the tip mechansim if you want to lift the tailgate as it clears the rack.
