Got £400 to spend which bike !

Hi all my cousin has £400 notes to spend on a bike. We are into xc and looking for good hard tail , disc brakes , decent forks and light frame! What bikes would you recomend around that price? Is anyone selling the Giant XTC 4.5 for £400 in the sales? Any advice would be great thanks.
