My mate is looking to get a new bike, an improvement on the scott yz3 he has now, he wants a bike to do a bit of everything, more aimed at DJ but can do others too, so i instantly thought kona jump bike range (scrap, shred etc.) and he likes the idea. I know theyre good bikes, although never owning one, but how have they gone up in price so much? im sure they used to hover around the £500 mark, but looking at CRC, the one with the only really tidy spec is £799.99!! then the one lower is £699.99 and thats with mechanical brakes, and a spec I personally dont think warrants that much money.
So bottom line, anyone recommend a bike thats better spec for that money? because 700 quid to get pants brakes etc. whats the mongoose range like? any others recommended?
oh well, rant over! thanks!

the focus dirt decision is a very nice bike for £699.99.
i have one and ive learnt so much since i got it0 -
take a look at the charge blender - brakes are a little sketchy but otherwise pretty decent? also try the P-all mountain from specialized thats pretty damn solid.
incidentally, heard a few bad things bout the p2 this year - warranty issues but.... plus the 08 ranges are due oot fairly soon so hunting around you could grab yourself a bit of a bargain... winstanleybikes, crc, and pauls cycles are all preeetty chaep on the older mods.0 -
The Mongoose bikes are definitely worth a look, as are most of the bikes suggested by Rocha and others
I had thought of another one worth a look, but in the procss of writing this post I have forgotten what it was - if I think of it, then I will come back and edit0 -
have a look at the Devinci Grind bikes too :P (called District in Canada)

i totally agree with that. the p all mtn is a bargain of a bike. it's been our pick of the year for hardtails that are for a bit if everything. strong frame, sorted geometry, strong fork, good parts and rides superb. what more good you ask for.
