If you're gonna use the same headset take the crown race from one fork and put it in the new one. You'll need a new starnut, though...
  • star nut is in already(they forks are from a new bike)
can i remove race without damaging it?i presume you just lever/prise old race this way?

    correct,
"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

  • this might sound daft to some....BUT,are crown races fairly universal?
i ask as the new forks i got have a race already fitted.
it is slightly different in design as it has the "slope"then down to a step...whereas mine is angled to the bottom.
i have offered both forks up to headset and there appears to be no difference in gap between forks and headset, and theres no movement.
im just checking as ill get paranoid if im not sure..many thanks

Not wanting to steal the thread but I'm assuming that light damage from where the crown race was removed isn't a big problem?
