Has any body had any problems with raceface cranks making a nose like there is grit in the ball barings :?

mine never made that noise but are only 6 months old. I'm assuming you've made sure they're still tight...

I've heard other people say that the external seals wore quickly and allowed water and dirt to get in on their raceface bottom bracket. I dont' have raceface but i'm looking to get a pair so i was doing some reading on them.

I have a Raceface Evolve crank on my Trance 2 and the bearings did'nt last 6 months. I clean the bike after every muddy ride and never with a pressured hose! Got them replaced under warranty but if they go again I might get an XT crank. I have heard though that the shimano bearings might fit the Raceface crank

Which ones did you have the evolve XC or DH? Both are pretty expensive so i'm surprised these bearing issues are so common with them.. Maybe I should think XT instead as well.

Evolve XC. I think all the money is on the crank itself and use cheap bearings and seals to keep the end price down!
  • Race Face have had serious issues with their bottom bracket reliability. Basically they are shite-if you get more than 6 months you are really lucky-3 months is average.
Bin them and fit Shimano bearing cups. They are a straight swap and should give you a year if installed correctly. They are £35 rrp
Theres no need to replace the crankset-these are a decent quality item, its just the bearing cups which are made of chocolate.
