OK - off in the camper to Ambleside next week. I've got loads of memory map routes etc but as I will only be allowed(!) to go for maybe two rides, are there any spots I MUST see / experience?
I'd go to Biketreks in Ambleside, they are top folk in there. They really know their stuff and are always willing to help. I guess it also depends what type of ride you're after. Chemdog has posted what sounds like an epic for this Sunday on the forum. You could ask him for details of the specific route if it sounds appealing - or come along if you're in the area by then.
Biketreks are excellent and have two weekly rides I've heard. I'd contact them.
A good descent is Iron Keld which is behind Tarn Hows. Go in the direction of Tlberthwaite from Hawkshead...'ish! It links into loads of B.Ways in the Langdale(s) area. You'll need a good map.
'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.
Troutbeck and Garburn Pass (gnarly    ) is a good route which can be combined with a blast round Loughrigg fell-also Claife Heights/Grizedale are close.Basically you're spoilt for choice!
