Compact chainset w/ braze-on front mech

I've just fitted a Shimano FC-R700 compact chainset to my 05 Trek Madone - I've heard that Trek will supply a modified front mech mount that will allow a standard double mech to hang a bit lower - has anyone bothered with this or managed to obtain this part? The standard mount is definitely too high, even at the lowest position - but looks like it will probably work "ok". I'll be trying it out this weekend, flooding permitting.

I am running compact on my Trek 5200. The front changer works fine with both a 50 or a 48 ring. Just put it as low as you can.

You might be able to gain another 2-3 mm with a small round file but be careful.
