Beaconruth I live in shropshire, so it wouldn't be too far for me to come across, it's just not a quick journey as the roads from mine are rubbish. I live about 10miles from Craven Arms, towards wales. Will have a look at the web link you put up, but not right now, just home from a 12hour shift and want a bath and then DVD and bed
Jonesy I am getting a Giant SCR 3.0, it looked lovely in the shop, I am in between a small and a medium frame and have opted for the small, so I don't have too much reach. I dare say I shall fall off a few times too!!!
Thanks Melpro, I used to do that too when I lived in the town, though I see very few cyclists round here now to race. The most cyclists I saw in one day was when the Bishop's Castle Tandem Triathlon was on, which starts a few miles from where I live.0 -
A Giant SCR 3 is a great choice. You get so much value for your money with the entry level Giants. The only reason I opted for a Bianchi in the end was because I just love the style. I was happy to pay a bit extra for the same spec but a sexy frame
I plan to buy another bike in a couple of years time when I have finished my degree and not in so much student debt when I do I will probably buy a top of the range Giant or a Wilier.
This is going to be an expensive 'lifestyle choice'!0 -
Add me & my mate to the list of girls out there. I have just bought a WSD Specialized Dolice Comp, but have been riding a mens audax frame previously. I ride with my partner and our friends so 2 guys 2 gals and do a fast 40 miles on average, usually around Cheshire.
I enquired about joining Chester Road Club but they never got back to me - maybe the thought of having new women riders scared them... shame on them.0 -

Isn't it just! I've got me a specialized allez which i'm very fond of but i do find myself pawing lots of bikes in my LBS and drooling slightly. I have had to content myself with some shiny wheels until I make my millions!0 -

Another female cyclist here.
I don't see too many other females around this way either - I almost double take every time I see another girl on a bike
I've been cycling for almost 5 months now and I'm nearly up to 1000 miles. I usually cycle around cheshire as well, starting off from Altrincham. I try to have easy runs out but I almost always end up just going as fast as I possibly can. If I see a cyclist in front of me I just have to try to catch up. I've done a couple of sportive events now and thoroughly enjoyed them. I think I'd like to try a race but not sure how to get started with that. I've thought about joining a club, there is a local one but I've not plucked up the courage yet. What I'd really like is to meet a fellow lady cyclist who wants to go as fast as poss.
I usually do a 40 miler at the weekend. On sunday I did 47 miles from Chatsworth in Derbyshire back home to Altrincham. It had 5100ft of climbing and took me ages to get home. I was nearly crying onsome of the killer hills. A couple of kind gents rode with me for a bit and kept me going.
I'm also on a Giant SCR 3.0 and love it. Having said that, I have already started dreaming about my next bike.
have fun0 -

Here is another woman!
I have just joined a triathlon club and have been on two club rides. If the men chose to put the hammer down, they would leave me behind, but they don't. These rides are billed as "social", so the onus is on the speedy guys to slow down. It works fine.
I only ride up to 35 miles on my own, but riding with others really is quickerand easier, so longer rides are feasible. I am about 2mph faster in the group, mainly because the guys in front shelter me from the wind. I guess I will have to take my turn in front though.0 -
BeaconRuth - thanks for your reply.
There is a club (seamons) which start out really close to my house. Unfortunately, the shortest ride they do at a weekend is half a day, which is too long for me as I have four very young children and I already feel guilty about leaving them for a couple of hours. They do a midweek ride but I'm told that the pace is very fast - 20+ mph avg speed - so I think I'd get left behind or feel guilty for slowing them down.
I'm not sure what else is local to me. I guess CTC would have info on that.
thanks again0 -

Here is the link to the list of clubs in the Cycling Time Trials Manchester District: http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/clu ... tr=&Page=1 I've only taken a quick look but maybe the Stretford Wheelers, Warrington RC or the Withington Wheelers would be close enough?
Good luck anyway!0 -

Oh yes, I saw a Bianchi bike and you are right they are sexy, but I now have my SCR 3 and OMG it's sooooo fab. Only got home at 5pm today and went out straight away. Bought some DMT shoes and SPD-SL's and luckily didn't fall off, I read somewhere on here about unclipping the bottom foot first and I managed to remember this while I was out, although I nearly didn't at a junction.0 -
OMG I am going out tomorrow(sunday) with a cycling group, the plan is 25miles. Hope it goes ok, at least with others I shall have a few tips on my new pedals and bike and things.0
-
Hello, male here. Sorry to intrude but I wanted to ask your opinions of these pedals, the Look Keo Elle:
They're the same as Look's other pedals - which are black or red - but these are supposedly ladies' pedals because they're such a fetching colour. Does this make any sense to you? I was thinking of getting some for my next bike.

What\'s the point of going out? We\'re just going to end up back here anyway
0 -

Many thanks for the link. I didn't realise there were so many clubs local to me.0 -
Didn't make the whole distance with the club, but had a good ride out anyway, was the only lady there, but not the only newbie with clipless pedals, and needn't have worried about them anyway 3 rides on my new bike and I am totally loving it. Now realise I need a proper cycling Jersey and need to get to grips with using a bottle from a cage.0

well done for getting out on the ride. I emailed my local cycling club but am still waiting for a reply
I still got out on the road on sat - had a great time (apart from the fact that I saw a dead cat)
Planning a 30 mile ride on sat morning, I would do longer but I have a house viewing at 11.30 in Brighton0 -
I intended to go out this afternoon, but I am whacked, I had shoulder physio this morning, then hair cut(which I know isn't really tiring, but had the most amazing head massage while the lad was washing my hair) and it's TOTM. Working a day shift tomorrow and a 14:00-midnight on Friday so I shall try and get out on friday morning before work.
Shame you haven't heard from the CC yet.0
