I ride an 04 Allez and am looking for a low budget set of wheels to do Le Jog in 7 days on in a fortnight.

I am 10 stone in weight and my current wheels have probably done about 5,000 miles or more. They are the heavyish Alex rims which used to come with an Allez.

Money is very tight this month and I wonder if the 5600 wheelset will be noticeably faster? I have been told the 550s are excellent value and easy to service.

Your thoughts please,

Ed

bear in mind that the 5600's are 10=speed only - they have the narrower cassette body-thing so you would need 10spd runing gear.

there is also an intermediate step - the R561's - also claimed as '105' spec - they are effectively 8/9/10 speed versions of the 5600's - I have them on my trek pilot 1.2 and I think they are excellent - they were £180, I paid £130 on an offer from wiggle - they are currently doing them for£112 from wiggle.

I have a set of 550s and I like them for evening thrash rides, I find them a bit harsh on longer rides. They have remained true over the last year even after some big hits.
