Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can recomend or has a personal favourite all round tyre for general riding in and around swinley forest in bracknell. Fire roads, loose gravel and single track.

Ta!

Will all depend on the weather! At the moment, it'll be so varied, that you'll struggle to find a suitable tyre for one terrain type. I did Swinley a few weeks back when it was sunny, and I thought it would be dry. This was true of the rocky/loose fire roads, but venture off those into the "expert" area and through the woods and it became a story of deep sludge and puddles and some muddy surprises! (smooth patch of mud that look innocent enough, but when I hit it, the bike's front end dug down to it's brake caliper and stopped dead!)

At the time, I had Panaracer Cinders on, and seemed to do the trick on the whole. But I suspect after the last week or so of rain, it'll be mud n puddles all over. I know it doesn't help, but you probably won't know for sure until you're there. I'd say a mud tyre though if going soon. What tyres do you have on now?? Could try running lower PSI if they're already an all-rounder type.

I have found most general purpose tyres work fairly well at Swinley, as long as they have a few knobs on them they should be fine. If it is dry and dusty I occasionaly use semi slicks, but then they often struggle in the dry sand.

Swinley doesn't really suffer from sticky mud, so I have never really seen the need for mud specific tyres. Currently I am using Nobby Nics and they seem to cope really well with the current damp conditions, the only tyres I remember being very draggy were a set of Conti Gravity tyres, and on a damp day at swinley they felt very very slow.
