Can anybody help, what advantages/disadvantages would there be in changing 700 25c to 700 23c tyres

Thanks in advance

I switched from 700x26 to 700x23 and for me it made a hell of a difference. The 26's were really cheap rubbish that came with my bike and replaced them with the new Conti GP 4000 S (Think they're magic by the way) I found the 23's to be far more comfortable (can easily manage Edinburgh's cobbles) and find them more responsive, better grip and cornering. I'm not sure if these differences would be due to the better quality tyres or narrower width though. Biggest difference was ride comfort though.

Did you change the wheels? or will 700x23 tyres fit on 700x25 wheels?

    (sorry for the ignorance)

700x23 should fit fine, they are only _very_ slightly thinner (a notional 2mm.) I would suspect that tyre quality would make a bigger difference.

I should add that I also changed the rubbish inner tubes that came as standard with my bike and put good quality, thin tubes in. I'm guessing this might have made a difference also. But like the guy above said, the difference is probably due to quality, not dimensions.

Sure, It's a Giant SCR 2.0. The tyres were Kona Kontenders, 700 x 26c rigid tyres. They only lasted about 500 miles before squaring off and were cut to shreds!. The inner tubes were massive too, about twice the size of the conti tubes I replaced them with.
