Wheel Question
A guy at work has been asking me about wheels for a 2nd hand bike he has bought. By the sound of it they are pretty knackered. The problem is that it has a 5 speed Sach Huret (or however it is spelt!) cassette, so I'm assuming modern wheels might not be suitable. I've suggested that he might be better getting the wheels serviced and see how that works, but I thought I'd check here to see what options there might be in terms of new wheels (which I have a feeling would make a massive difference).

Lot's of things to worry about here. You have a wheel with a 5 speed freewheel, not cassette. These thread, rather than slide, onto the hub. More importantly, it means that the bikes is of a certain age You need to be sure what size they are. Chances are pretty good that they are 27" rather than 700C. Most LBSs will be able to get hold of cheap 27" wheels with alloy rims. Alloy rims are a better braking surface than chromed steel rims.0
