Adaptor bracket

Hi, I saw some disc brakes advertised on Ebay but the seller said there were no adaptor brackets included. Without sounding too thick what exactly are adaptor brackets and how much will they cost?
Also am I likely to have them on my bike already considering I have v-brakes at the minute?
Thanks for the help and sorry if it sounds an obvious question!

Right ok pretty much all disk brakes have adptors to convert them to run diffrent size disk brake rotors. There are two types of mounting. Post mounts. And IS mounts (international standard.) If you give me the details of the brakes. What size disk rotors they have, and what forks you have i will be happy to help. Also most disk adaptors cos about 4.99 but i work at a local lbs and can get my hands on them easy. Private message me when you get chancethe only was to push your limits is to overstep then now and then0
