New tyres?
Hi there,
I'm taking part in my first triathlon in 2 weeks.
My bike is a year old. I still have the same tyres it came with. I haven't had a you-know-what in that time.
I've covered a lot of miles.
My question: should I replace the innertubes and tyres before my race?
Basically I'm wondering if my old tyres will be less speedy than a new pair.
Thanks for any help.

on the inner tubes: if they ain't broke don't fix them
on the tyres - the miles you will have covered will have worn the covers down, and made them a bit thinner. New tyres will have slightly better puncture resistance, but I do mean slightly unless they are worn nearly to the carcass.
Will new tyres be faster? I can tell a fair difference between my "race" tyres and my training ones, certainly relevant to a contest, but it's because they are much more expensive and fragile ones, not because they are newer0 -
If you need to ask, the tyres aren't worn too much so I'd leave well alone and change after the event. (Tubes will be ok)
It's only 25 miles I presume, and if it's London, the course will be reasonably clean.
As for "faster" - new tyres wouldn't noticeably improve your performance.
Having said all that, if it's a mental boost you want, go ahead and get yourself some new rubber!0 -
Thanks guys.
Reckon you're both right. Gonna leave "as-is".0
