I have been lent a bike and would like to know which one it is, if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Its is a Giant OCR but it doesnt have a number on it. Its is dark red with the odd bit of silver on it.
On the frame it also says Compact Road and there is a sticker on it that says 6061 Aluxx Butted Alluminium.

I also damaged one of the wheels this morning (pot hole hidden by puddle... grrr) and I cant find the wheel on the net anywhere. Erolite 622x13DIN Alloy 6063T6. Anyone know what wheels these are and how much a replacement would cost?

cheers all

Dont know about the OCR but I've got an SCR (Think the SCR may be OCR replacement - anyone?) With the SCR they number the models from cheapest to more expensive 3.0 (Sora Groupset), 2.0 (Tiagra Groupset), 1.0 (105 Groupset). I think! Perhaps the groupset you have on your OCR might correspond a SCR model?

As for your wheel. What kind of damage have you done? I put a very slight buckle in mine and broke a spoke during the winter from hitting a pothole, replaced the spoke and got it true again pretty easily and can't feel the buckle during braking. Try taking it to your lbs and see if they can repair the wheel rather than replacing it. This would be the cheaper option.

Thanks. Im taking it in later today (slighlty nervous as it is my lbs that lent it to me). I havnt broken any spokes, I can just feel a bump in it when i push the bike.

I find it really strange that I can find this damn bike on the net anywhere!

There was a thread on here the other day about the ocr model, someone said it was the american version of the scr, heres the american giant website, have a look and see if your bike's on there. :)

Thanks guys. I have had a look on the american site but they are all OCR 1, 2, etc. I cant find an OCR model without a number.

Would you guess that one without a number is better or worse? It is highly unlikely that it is a very good bike as it is the one my lbs lend out to people all the time.

Do you know what groupset the bike has? i.e. what does the writing on the brake levers, rear and front derailleur say? If like the SCR then the alu frames should be the same for all models with better components on the more expensive ones. You'd be able to work out a value from that by comparing with SCR models

as its a LBS bike and is the one they lend out, i think its a bit of a mish mash as they have replaced/ repaired bits over time. Nightmare!!

The reason I want to know is becasue I have asked them if I can buy it from them and would like to know roughly what tehy would value it at.

I have been told taht the wheels are very heavy (cant find them on eth net anywhere) and part of the chainset is actually a mountainbike one. I will go and have a look....

    ok....

start with the gears: the large bit at the front by the pedals says shimano Tiagra, the small bit next to it which the chain feeds through is Shimano 105, the bit at teh back which moves when you change gears is Shimano Deore XT and teh bit at the handle bars is shimano tiagra Flight Deck

    any ideas??

Could it be something built together out of the parts bin?

From what I've seen all circa 2005 or 06 OCR bikes all had the OCR number clearly shown.

However you used to be able to buy an OCR compact road frameset on it's own. Not sure about colours, but they appear to have done a red one:

Regarding the wheels, the name sounds like the sort of name Vuelta would have used (zerolite etc.) a, 6063-T6 is a middle of the road alloy!

Not sure if I'm helping at all, but your description isn't exactly matching anything OCResque from the last couple of years.

Right. Going out on a limb here....

Sounds like it had a Tiagra groupset to start with. This would rrp for ~£500 new. How much they'd charge you second hand I guess would depend on them, the age and the condition of the bike. The front mech (bit that chain passes through with 105 on it) is an upgrade but only by about £5 at new rrp. And the rear mech (bit with XT) on it is a near top end mountain bike component. These components have a limited lifespan and are therefor relatively cheap to replace so the shop shouldn't charge you more for them. As its a rental bike I cant imagine the shop would charge too much for it and if its an honest shop wouldn't try to rip you off either. I'd be looking at something consideribly less than half of the new rrp for it. But then again, I'm a frugal Scot! :P

Surely as any person who's taken part in a "cycle to work" scheme knows, the value of a 12 month+ old bike will only be 5% of its full RRP!

Surely I haven't taken part in the cycle to work scheme. If you give me the details on an lbs that sells 12 month old £1000 bikes for £50, let me know. There's a charity run by volunteers near me that sells refurbished bikes for about £40 a pop for an adult bike. I'd imagine a bike shop to charge quite a bit more than that.

the OCR frame on it's own is a decent unit - the wheels sound like cheap rubbish and the rear mech is a little odd - as you say - a parts bin special.

If you like it and it fits ok - I'd have thought an offer just under or around £200 would have seen it right if it is in good condition. I'd want to change the wheels for something decent - something like Mavic Aksiums would be nice at £100 and perhaps a new rear mech - a 105 one for around £30 or a Tiagra one for under £25 (prices from wiggle) should see you right. that would be around the £300 mark all-in

however - you need to remember that you can get a new giant SCR3 (which will be a slightly more comfortable riding position than the OCR) for £330 at the moment

I think I should have sprinkled a few smileys in my comment - sorry!
What is the fair market value payment?
A fair market value payment is the amount that a willing buyer would pay to a willing seller to purchase certain property at a particular point in time. Cyclescheme has established a FMV of 5% plus VAT as used on ... other bike to work schemes.

It wasn't meant as a critism of your OCR valuation which looks fair, just the unusually low value put on used bikes by some cycle to work scheme providers!

I can confirm that the bike is an OCR4 from 2003! All the other bits and bobs have been added along the bike shop said tehy would sell it to me for 295.

Instead I am going with a new Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu - Xenon in silver with celeste handlebars and saddle :D woohoo

Good choice. Thats far too steep for a parts bin job. Bandit.
