Following from the are you too old at 30 to ride.
I'm interested to see what the typical age is on here
Any style from XC to DH nutters.

btw I'm 39 (closer to 40) Technical single track and light DH.

26 here, I'm desperately trying to get fit fast so I can try and get into racing before I hit 30 and go up an age bracket! It's the older riders who I expect to whoop my ass more than the younger ones!

Apparently, 32'ish is a good age if you've been cycling since youth as your heart gets bigger with more capacity up until around then. So at 33, it's all downhill for me!

Well i started riding when i was 2years old and have never stopped, except for now as im recovering from a type 5 shoulder separation (boooooo) although im getting a nice tan..ive did all kinds of riding, went from bmx (til i was 23) into mtb (downhill/freeride), jump bikes, back to freeride and now just getting into xc riding (custom Giant Anthem at the mo), and im now approaching 32...i'd have to say however that since i got into xc riding and doing some fairly long distances at a decent pace, my fitness has went mental, i feel twice as fit as i did when i was a teenager thrashin about on a bmx and doing short bursts on the dh/freeride bikes. Old age...haha...bring it..

Started at 15 with a Hardrock pro. 19 now, got bikes that are a bit better and can hopefully ride a bit better too.

30 Old? shit 30 only sounds old when your 20!

Turned 30 about a month ago, started riding again at 28 after a nastly wake-up call from my Doctor about dying young of type 2 Diabeaties because of my awefull lifestyle (drinking, smoking, zero exercise and a terrible fat & sugar filled diet).

Took up DH on my 30th birthday and expect to still be riding at the trail centres and DH as long as my legs still work.

Still wish I hadn't stopped riding when I was 18...
  • i forgot to add that i ride mostly trails and jumps with a sprinkle of street and light down hill, but once i get my downhill bike this will change and i love downhill.

started riding again at 43, am now 53 and go downhilling to morzine every year. Ride xc most sundays and time trial when work allows. Love xc racing and kicking the young 'uns arses uphill. Most of my mates are 10 years younger than me.

that is the most important aspect of cycling

As long as I enjoy it I will carry on.

I keep finding new ways to enjoy cycling, from TT's on the road to XC and single track to long distance and touring.

So I must enjoy a lot still :lol:

32 this year and am fitter than I have ever been.

Love my bike(s) and riding xc pretty much every day. Planning on doing my first (mini) triathlon this year too.
  • Those age groups are mean!

41, started riding at 17 and mountain biking at 18.

I ride road and mountain bikes, with general wheels-on-ground style. There's a video somewhere of how embarrassingly bad I am on a downhill bike despite Doddy's excellent teaching.

No doubt M Cole will be along in a moment to embarrass me with a link to it.

Nothing embarrassing about it, at least you didn't end up in Royal Gwent A&E

    Here's the vid, sportsfans:

" Age groups are mean", I thought the grouping was quite fair.

I'll have a look at the - possibly embarrissing - vid tonight when I get home (vids blocked at work) dam those Banking rules.

It's good to see a prevalence of 30 somethings as the majority, so far.

Well, Im nearly 65 and I don't seem to have been catered for in this poll! Ihad to put a tick in the 50 to 60 bit.

Went out last night and did 17 tough miles with two 68 year olds. We had to apply extra glue to prevent the teeth going missing.

Yabbut I don't feel like I should be in the second-oldest grouping. In fact the way I felt riding home this evening was more like 16-25. Dunno what was in the coffee at the office this afternoon. Maybe we got Astana's brew by mistake...

You're only 2yrs older than me, lol.

Apologies for all those young 'uns in the 60+ bracket (Unless I'm dead or unable to ride, I'll still be hitting those trails well into my 60s)
The Poll will not let me add a 60+ group. Unless an admin/Mod can do something about it?

just added a option for the plus 60's (not that you can vote on it) to cover any others and to make John not feel so bad!

A 8) 31 years young, had the Ruckus for over a year now and jumped higher, more stylish (table tops , x-ups so far.) and farther than I have ever before. Only because my son wants to try and beat me, he's 10 and has no fear. in all honesty life just starting!

It's supposed to be fun! You're far too young to be 'serious' :)

Just in case, I'm kidding you - but see my comments here. That word 'serious' just sets my teeth on edge.

I think we're all a bit 'serious' otherwise we would not spend all our hard earned cash on upgrades and fancy bits of kit nor riding in all types of weather, a selection of summer and winter tyres; not to mention clothing, body armour. And when it comes to cleaning, how many of you make sure your bike is spotless, only to do ride through miles of mud the following week (especially with all the rain we're having)?

Or is it, we're all very enthusiastic...

    40 and a half!

Bought a cheap bike with a four numbers lottry win in November.... was worried it would just join other "sports" equipment at the back of the garage!!... bought it mainly to increase leg strength for my kite surfing.
Last rode a "pushbike" when I was 15!

So I took to it, rode all through winter and noticed I wasn't passing out up hills anymore!
Bought a better bike and LOVED it, have spent more time in woods and on trails than in the water recently... great fun, increased fitness no end and lost over a stone I didn't notice had been hiding on me!

My son and myself went out and did 25 miles on Sunday.... who was most tired.. me or the 16 year old :D
Oh... I also have a pacemaker, which makes the dropins even MORE scarey as a tree/body interface could be "serious"! :o
  • Just gone the wrong side of 26, and feeling every minute of it! Still, bikes in the garage so i'm happy :D
