Campag compact query

Hello all, I'm hoping to fit a mirage 9 speed compact chainset to my Dads bike and I have a few questions.
1-He currently runs 8 speed, is the 9 speed compact compatable with an 8 speed chain?
2-If his BB is already 111mm, will it fit the more modern chainset?
3- Is a CT front derailler necessary?
4-Where is the cheapest place for the above parts?

    9 speed chainset is OK with 8 speed transmission.
    Check Campag website - but I think Mirage still runs 111mm BB
    Standard front mech is OK - needs to be lowered - just not as snappy as CT mech and alignment is more critical.
    Most online dealers have similar prices - some may be discounting in preparation for 2008 models.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    3- no but it does shift a tad better
