cracking noise

hi there every one hope all are well.i have an annoying noise comeing from what i believe to be the bottom bracket ,only when applying a lot of pressure say up hills i get this cracking noise which occurs every one or so full turns of the crank arms .it sounds like something is about to go but there is no visible wear or play & apart from the noise its not a problem ,i just wondered if something is on its way out as this is not your normal front mech noise or pedal creek .the crank arms are shimano hone & im unsure ob bottom bracket type allthough there should be some pictures of the said bike in the pink bike below,the grey bike.

    what gear? or combinations?

    all combinations front & rear the only way to stop it is to change to an easier gear which cures it untill the hill gets steeper or you put the power down. id say its definately onece every revolution you can count it in your head as you ride it seems to have a defined pattern.but bloody noisy! & annoying

    It's also worth checking the bottom bracket cups. sometimes a turn or two of plumbers PTFE tape around the cup threads will stop creaking and cracking noises from the BB.

    im sure its the bb.the type i have is with external bearings can i adjust these at all or is this a no no if so what tools will i require.many thanks

    Before worrying too much, try re-greasing as many threads as you can down in that area. Sometimes the smallest thing can be the problem, rather than an imminent BB failure. My girlfrind recently complained of the same thing, and that did turn out to be the pedal in fact.

    ive ordered a park bbt-9 to do the job hopefully,i reckon ill start by just tightning the plastic lock ring a little first ,then ill remove the external bearings grease & rebuild then we will see,im going for a quick blast any minute then the next proper ride will be a week on saturday when eight of us are of to coed-ye-brenin for a weekends pi** up i mean a weeksends rideing> so if anything is on its way out id better sort it .

    I had same problem! When i went uphil -> i heard cracking noise. I thought it is BB, but actually after i greased my chain (well!!!) and tighten the cranks.... it has gone :-)
