Hi guys

I have managed to find some extra cash for my imeninant XC bike purchase and have 2 strong contenders, the Trek 6700 Disc and the Giant XTC 2.5. Have ridden both, and both ride nice. Both ideal for XC racing and trail riding.

If it was your £800 squid where would it go and why?

No stupid statments on alternatives please. Genuine help needed.

Thanks

Still not decided eh?! I reckon you'll be up to a grand tomorrow lol.

Anyway, both good bikes (you know I was going to say that...), but looking closely at the spec I knew what I'd choose if I thought both were hard to split on a test. It would be the Trek. The Giant has the better fork, but the Tora 318 isnt far behind and they both have the same damper. The wheels on the Trek are far better, mavic XM117 are pretty poor, the Bontrager stuff is very good. I'd also put the Treks SLR frame, cranks, drivetrain and brakes above that of the Giant.
  • No, still urming and ahhing!

Yeah, I knew you were gonna say they were both good, mainly coz they are.

I was leaning towards the Trek but just wanted some final input from the gurus.

    Cheers mate

  • Ok nearly there.. but have found the Merlin Malt 4 online and looks like a new contender.

£800 with Reba shocks after the %20 online discount.

Check the Focus Killer Bee on the www.wiggle.com site.

CBA to check the spec, but know its probably heaps better than the trek & many others, just not sure of the frame.

Just another thought. £850 is a bargain.
  • Already checked the Killer Bee but they sold out of larges yesterday.

    Cheers anyway.

The online 20% discount on the Merlin Malt 4 is awesome.

It will be a tos up between that and the Trek 6700.

As I said I have already looked on wiggle (the killer bees only supplier) they have run out of stock on the large.

    Cheers anyway.

Merlin are doing 20% off all Malts and Rock Lobsters in July, and 10% off the sale bikes.
  • Online order discount is 10% and if you order before end of July you will get another 10% off.

Check it out at merlin cycles.
