Two questions...
1. From time to time, I've observed riders with a red background to their back no. What does this signify ?
2. How can someone accumulate negative points? If you look up the points table, there's a few folks at the bottom of the list with negative points totals. Have they somehow had points deducted following some rule infringements ?
Thankyou !

Do you know the five lamps ?

1. I think the guy with the red number was the most aggressive rider on the previous stage.
2. I think they have been deducted points for certain minor infractions yeah. Never noticed that myself though.0 -

1. They were awarded the combativity prize in the previous day's road stage.
2. As you say, rule infringements. Illegal feeds, failure to sign in at the start, being pushed up a climb, peeing in an area with spectators and so on. They can also be fined in Swiss francs.0 -
3. (I know there is no 3) The guys with numbers on yellow background instead of white (or indeed red) are the leading team on overall classification (based on their top 3 riders overall I think).
This competition has changed hands quite a bit during this tour - much more so than the yellow jersey.0 -
The team classification is based on the times of a team's first three riders over the line each day, so it can be any rider within the team on different days.I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed0
