Chainrings...?

Ok, I currently run just 8 gears, but I have the original outer ring still in use. I've just had a Boxguide installed, and its rubbing becuase the ring is ramped or whatever for shifting.
The ring itself is nearing the end of its life, and will soon need replacing.
Basically, I'm wondering if I can run any suitably sized rings, or if I specifically need an 8-speed ring?
And if so/not, can nyone suggest any decent rings - 42t or 44t, budget is probably £30 max I guess
Cheers

any.
but if the current one is rubbing you have not set the guide up correctly. there is plenty of clearance on those guides."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I got LeisureLakes to set it up, the problem is the ring is shaped so that the chain shifts better or somehting, but basically it is almost convex - its rubbing on the side of the top bit0

well they have not done a very good job."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Fair enough, but that doesn't answer the question about if I need and 8spd specific chainring, or if I can use any?0

as i said before any.
but personally i would get one that is not designed to be used on a tripple set up."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Fair enough, that makes sense
Any in particular that I should look at?0 -
