SRAM X9 Trigger Shifter Spring Issue

I have just removed the cover to one of the shifters, and the coil spring has come out. I tried to do the same to the other one very carefully so I could see how the spring sits in that one, but it too sprung out. I have been onto SRAM website to look for tech-doc, but none show you the inner workings.

Any ideas on how / where the spring sits??

Because the shifter wasn't engaging at all (felt like something had broken or snapped). Wasn't the end nipple/ferrule of the cable so I figured it must be something inside.

i remmember these blighters when i fitted new cables of which is required to do on sram (cough cough nicklouse) i have x9 shifters & from what i can remmember the large flat coil sits on top of the red guide, the spring then goes face down locateing the bent end peice of the spring into the hole in the red guide ,then if my memory serves me correctly the other end sits by the hole were the cable would come through from the outside of the shifter body, hope thi helps it made sense in my head ,i was genuinely going to take a picture of mine with the cap of but remmembered i left it at work today, wust out as it rained cats & dogs.i too also had the same problem with the dodgy shifting sometimes it was like pressure fresh air. i tried everything inc new cables in the end i found id been overly tightning the plastic screw caps!doh!

not needed to take the backs of my X9 or X7 yet. not needed to replace the X0 cable yet.

New X9 as the sameish as the old X0 so i guess the back come off.
when people dont give the full info. and as the Old X9 is the most common....

I'm sure I posted a reply to this on the old forum, because I too can't ever fit a new cable in SRAM X-7 shifters without pulling the things apart.

The spring clips into the ratchet in the middle of the shifter on one end where the tail is at the middle of the spring itself. The other end just attaches precariously on a little notch near where the cable enters the shifter and this is why it springs off usually when you undo the shifter.

Thanks to all, spring issue now sorted. Re-assembled and fitted cables afterwards which was fairly easy once I'd taken off the barrel adjuster. Flyin Snakes fitted yeah!
