Having Recently got a job for the summer i am looking at getting a new full suspension bike.
I'm looking for a bike around £1000 - £1200 for hard xc / all mountain riding. last year i posted on MBUK and was recommended a Kona Stinky but since have found out that this is completely unsuitable as i need to be able to get up hills as well as down.
I have looked at a kona coiler in my LBS and also found this was too freeride orientated and laid back. The bikes i have narrowed down to are
Kona Dawg Delux or Primo 06
Giant trance 2
scott ransom 40 (maybe a bit over budget)
If anyone could help it would be great
Thanks

I've got a ransom 40 that i'm well happy with and you can still get some good deals on the last of the 06 stock if you shop around.

You could also try a giant reign (more similar bike to the ransom than the trance is) or spesh enduro.

I've ridden a dawg and was quite impressed, poor spec though really.

also have a look at the mongoose teocali elite, the 06 model had a good review in wmb magazine.

    Hope that helps

If there's a 2006 Dawg Primo going for about £1500 or so, go for it.

There are some great 06 specialized enduro s-works on e-bay for about a grand second hand.
One of the best all round bikes ever made.
With a spare set of thick wheels and a short stem you have a bike that will basically span all day trail riding to mentalist afan DH....

    Thumbs up to the enduro

If you're a bit of a shortarse you could grab a real bargain here. The Dawg Primo is only £950 and I know from personal experience that the ex-demo bikes of Skyline are superbly maintained.

Or there is the 5 Pro Hope. Bit larger and also a steal at £1500.
    S-works Stumpjumper FSR

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.
  • id say go for a kona coilair! i hired one the other day t do the red trail at glentress and it is one of the best i have ridden..what makes it even better is that you can change the pressure in the airshock depending on the duties....
  • hey mate last year was in exactly the same position as you - got myself a poverty GT iDrive 5 - the 3.0 version so was pretty heavy but even so the bike is actually fantastic. for that sorta money you could get yourself a 5 1.0 (an '06) which is just aweseome, as the iDrive itself works so amazingly well. mine climbs like a hardtail, descends like a DH just perfect. handling is proper sharp as well (just steer clear of manitou) also be aware that for sizing, GT seem to make their bikes bigger than they need to be, and if you want a superchuckable frame use the size below - if available if you go for an 06. hope this helps!
