be honest as possible please, are suntour forks any good?
the reason i ask is that i have stock manitou axel comp on now,but as i have to ride road for around 4 miles any direction to get to the woods or trails here,i was looking on ebay for a set of forks with lockout(budget around £100)and i came across suntour xrc brand new for £50.
i ride xc through shining cliff woods with a few 3-4' drops and local trails.any advice welcome.thanks

not very good but are getting better.
is 50 your limit?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

no nick,im happy to go upto £100(wife and 2 kids dont understand the need of new forks opposed to weeks shopping)i just saw the suntours and thought they look ok but never used them, only manitou on my trance and on my old marin.
to be honest i dont rate the manitou's at all,so i was looking at rock shox, fox or marzochi on ebay.0 -
i would look at toras or rebas from RS Toras lower cost but heavier than the rebas.
but they work and dont flex. the only issue could be brakes if you run discs. as manipou post mount and RS IS ."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

thanks nick0 -
what about rock shox dart 3's? you can get them with poploc on chainreactioncycles.com, for £95. i have heard pretty good reviews about them. heres the link; http://chainreactioncycles.com/Models.a ... elID=13108
p.s. suntours are probably gonna be more trouble than theyre worthCarbon 456... http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/8854609/0 -
before i spend un-wisely,am i right in thinking that if i buy i s mount forks i will need to buy a post to i s adaptor?
i have seen these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=18132
would i need to buy a bigger rotor to accomodate the adaptor?.
the brakes are hayes 9s,i have an adaptor on the chainstay for the back brake..and both front and rear are 160mm rotors.
thanks for looking.0 -
Good fork for the money.
Here is the adaptor you need for your 160mm rotor and Post mount brake

u shoud have a look on ebay www.ebay.co.uk0

I cant understand the bad stigma about them, i got xcr forks as standard on my gt avalanche 2.0 and find them to be adiquite enough that i don't need to upgrade.0

yeah you can find some good deals on ebay.0

are these forks any good and how much could you get them fot?0

Spend the extra and go for a pair of Marzocchi Bombers for around the £100 mark. Probably the cheapest decent forks out there, and very good they are too!0

The Suntour X100 on the Avalanche 1.0 are pretty good (if you don't mind them being quite soft). Smooth travel, compression/rebound damping, 32mm flex free stanchions, lockout, lightweight (for the price range).
To be honest I'd much rather have them than Darts, cheap RST or Tora 302s to be honest. My other bike has Revelation Dual Airs, used to have air Bombers before (which used to stick at the top of the travel a bit too much).
Realistically I'd look out for a pair of Tora 318s or Recons around £100 second hand. Lots of people pull them straight off new bikes and sell them.0
