FST-L freewheel and cassettes

Newbie question: Sorry if this is a dumb-a**e question but I'm rather new to this bike maintenance lark and am easily confused!
I need to buy new wheels, and have settled on the vaguely economic Mavic Crossride wheelset. According to the specs, the rear has a FTS-L freewheel mechanism. Question is, if I bought a Shimano (or any other brand) cassette, will it fit????

FTS-L is a mavic term for the internals.
