Prescription sunglasses?

Has anyone here used something like the Specialized Helix sunglasses with a prescription insert? As far as I can tell it's like a second set of clear prescription lenses behind the regular tinted lens. I was wondering how they performed regarding getting sweaty, cleaning them, etc.

Another option would be contact lenses or full prescription sunglasses which I've used in the past, but they can be expensive!

I've been using some Bolle's with an insert for years - they are fine, and aren't anymore difficult to clean than single lenses.

I got cycling sunglasses with prescription inserts 3 years ago, of the fairly well-known brand Oliver.
The frame isn’t particularly sophisticated, i.e. doesn’t have the flexibility and adjustment possibilities that some expensive makes have, but I and am still perfectly happy with them.

The inserts are only for distance, i.e not progressive, so to read a map I need to temporarily exchange the sunglasses for reading-glasses. Progressive lenses probably wouldn’t have been possible without having larger inserts and so larger sunglasses – and I didn’t want something which started to resemble ski goggles!

I bought one of the previous-year’s models, so already reduced, during a week when the shop also had a special offer on. I then asked if I could have a further reduction since the frame was the shop exhibit one, to which they agreed. So in the end I got them (sunglasses, inserts and 2-year warranty) for only about £25.

(Spasypaddy, you get the prescription from your eye doctor)

Don't forget with multiple lenses, you can use them all year round - I certainly do, and generally stick with clear lenses most of the time as they do offer some glare reduction.

I use prescription photochromic glasses that I got from optilabs http://www.optilabs.com/. Also if you have a favourite pair of regular glasses they can retrofit prescription lenses in them, I sent them a pair of Oakley staight jackets and they replaced the stock lenses with prescription photochromic ones.

I got a pair from Optilabs with photochromatic lenses. They are the business. Quick turnaround from Optilabs as well - less than a week
Flying Scot? You must be joking!
