2007 Rockhopper BB problems

My mate is just about to buy a 07 Rockhopper. The standard spec at 550 quid.
I have heard rumors of Specialized spec'ing incorrectly sized Bottom brackets.
Is this just a rumor or is it true.
Would the bike shop swap the BB if i brought this to their attention??

BB length affects chainline, and clearance issues. 'Ideal' chainline is open to interpretation and its possible spesh has this chainline for good reason. Have a look on Sheldon for his article on chainline.0
