Recharging N-cells or cheapest BS rear light

I have a couple of Cateye rear lights which take N cells - a totally inconvenient size! The batteries are expensive so I am looking to either get rechargeables or replace the lights with the cheapest BS approved LED lights out there (I like to have a BS light just in case, but I use much brighter primary lights - SMART superflash).
I have seen the odd place that sells rechargeable n cells - but how do you charge them? Normal battery chargers don't take them and I don't want to fork out for an expensive charger.
Alternatively - does anyone know of a cheap LED rear light that is BS approved? Obviously it needs to take sensible batteries!
Thanks!
