hi ive been looking at building a custom build from a giant stp frame , ive noitced while looking around for a good deal the Giant stp frame is £300 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... TP%20Frame (sorry for bad link, not alot of info on the frame)

and that the giant stp 2 is also £300 http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... uctID=8109

i was just wondering what the differance between the 2 frames was, and if theres not a differance would it be better going for the giant stp 2, less things to buy ( buy new forks ect. and leave some stuff stock and upgrade later on?)

thanks :)

  • ive got a giant stp 2 (see my pic). excellent bike. the forks are pretty cheap and top out quite a lot so i wanna upgrade them. chain comes off a lot so im going to get a truvativ boxguide. the wheels you get aren't disc compatible so if u wanna get discs u have to buy whole new wheels as well.

i dont think there is much difference between the frames except color (correct me if um wrong) but it seems weird they are seling the stp frame for the same price as the stp2. it might be made of lighter metal or something similar.

the frames are the same apart from the finish and the colour. the one on the stp zero and
the one that comes one its own are harder to scratch. i have a giant stp 1 and its alot nice the the 2007 specialized p1

so i can put disc breaks onto the giant stp2 frame yeah?
  • yes but you will have to replace the wheels as well which is an expensive job - you are looking at £15+ for labour, £12+ish for spokes AND your desired hub - got to be good if you want to do dirt jumps etc all in your LBS.

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a whole new wheel.

What discs are you looking at? I want to get some magura julies, good brakes if your on a budget.

the difference betwen the full build ones and the frames are that the frame has a full 6011 aluxx alu frame and full build versions have a mix of 6011 and 6061 so the frame only will be a wee bit lighter. this is straight from giant. trust me i have spoken to them and it also says so on the frame. i have had both versions now. the difference is too hard to notice. they both have the same angles so will ride pretty much the same. either way they are wicked frames. three members of staff where i work work have bougth these and everyone will recomend them wil no hesitations.
