mongoose 06 tyax super vs o7 elite & when are 08's expec

hi,
this is my first post. i am after an entry level mountain bike, hard tail, for commuting and trailing.
i have narrowed it down to 3 options:
either buying (if i can source one) the 06 mongoose tyax super
or the 07 mongoose elite
or waiting for the 08 mongoose bikes and seeing if they are a significant improvement.
i have been out of mountain bikes for 10 years and so am really at ground zero for knowing about the tech specs of the bikes. is there a massive difference in quality from year to year.
Is the older super superior to the newer elite?

The old super does have a slightly better spec. Do test them though. Newe ones probably not until september.0
