How much would it mess up the geo if i put a 185mm shock onto my GT i-drive(curently with a 165mm shock)?
Would it affect the handleing? What would be the effects?

well would it actually fit?
yes it would mess up the handling. rais the bb and steepen the head angle. bur again IF it would fit.
and even then it might have the same travel."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Well i could just squeeze it in...
But i really dont want to screw up the geo, and there would be no point in running it with less air because it would surely just bottom out all the time?
The world seems to be short of 165mm Fox shocks!!!
Any other shocks you recomend?0 -
romic do a 165m, look on chainreaction.Too enthusiastic about biking for my friends...want to ride somewhere in the SE? TELL ME!!! hamsterscanswim@hotmail.com - and yes they can!0

the length is not the only thing the stroke is an issue as well. and then there is the fitting kit. would there be any available.
what shock are you looking for?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I think they only do 191mm and 203mm options.0 -

Well I have been looking at The float R, I just like them for some reason. I've never really tried any others.
Anything 165mm Air and good will do. Any thoughts on the ssd range from dt swiss?0 -
What shock do you currently have, and model/year i drive? What is wrong with the old one?0

Some awful RST spring thing same rebound as a damp spounge. The bike was bought in 2004 unfortunatly its not a "true" GT, its a comp .0 -
On a budget I'd look at the RS Ario or Bar.0
-
Well i was looking at about £170-£200
I've seen a nice rp3 on e-bay but im unsure of getting something as fiddely as a shock from there (lots that could be wrong that you cant see in the picture) but it is only £150... How much are servicing costs?
Could i just get it PUSHed or something?0 -
Look at MOJO for servicing options and prices. I'd have to question whether a short travel idrive actually needs an RP3 and its associated gubbins.0

Cheers! Thanks for your help guys.0

No probs. This is the Halfords I drive isn't? If I remember rightly the fork was a bit of a bummer too.0

Yea it was rubbish, so i replaced it with a pair of marzochicci MX ETA's, they work for what i wanted. Replaced the wheels(hope xc hubs on mavic 717's) and drivetrain(xt/lx) as well, it looks quite nice and rides nicely, apart from the rear shock.... it's very poor.0 -
Ah, some nice upgrades. Is a good frame, and I agree that the shock need to be replaced.
I am not sure Float R is available after market.0 -
CRC used to have some... that was before i got a pay rize.
I search ebay every now and then but as i said before its risky.0 -
