Why £500 bike to buy?

I've got a £500ish budget to buy a road bike - only snag, it has to be through Halfords as it's a work salary reduction thingy.
.
They can order in some Specialized, GIant and Trek models

This is what I've narrowed it down to.

Specialized Allez Triple 2007
Specialized Dolce 2007
Trek 1000 WSD (L)
Giant SCR 3.0
Giant SCR 2.0

I'm a "lady", 5ft10ins tall, with a long torso and can't decide whether I should get a men's bike or a special girlie one.

Thoughts?

I'd go for a "ladies'" bike (you have to say that in a Little Britain Emily Howard voice for proper effect). The Dolce gets good reviews.

I think they can get a wider range of brands than that (though those are a good selection). If you fancy something beyond those, ask them to get hold of one, I gather they have even purchased via other bike shops on occasion.

To decide which is best geometry and whether to get a girlie  bike or not, you need try one or two.

You'll be best putting a ladies saddle on if you get a men's bike, you girls have different sit bones.

The Spez Dolce gets great reviews, but you need to try one for size.

I had the whether-to-buy-a-women's-bike a couple of months ago. I ended up going for the Dolce and love it. I looked at a few of the others, and my original intention had been to get an Allez. I actually felt that I was compromising to go for a women's version! But I tried a few and really felt like I was overreaching on all of the men's ones. It came down to the feeling that the Dolce just fitted right. The only other one I've seen since that comes close is the Giant SCR 3 women's version.

You could just get a blokes bike and then spray it pink and tie lacy bits on?

  • Obviously that was part of my plan all along. The lace is covered in glitter and ready to go.

Have decided to go for the Allez Sport Double as am long in the torso and the arm and my nice man at my very good local bike shop took one look at me and said "they won't fit you".
  • Duh. Meaning the girlie bikes. I really should finish my sentences
