I've just bought my first SPD shoes - Specialized BG Sonoma (via Wiggle) - and they're great to wear.

Question: If I remove the SPD cover on the sole to try them with cleats/SPD pedals, can the covers be put back in place? This is so I can use them with non-SPD pedals and walk around without getting crap in the cleat mounting holes.

Advice appreciated.

It should clip back in place
  • even if its a rubber cover? what clips it into place? (without taking it out to look in case it doens't go back in !!)

I think it locates in a groove in the rubber that surrounds the cleat area so it kind of fits in place like a plug. doesn't the instruction book give any advice?
  • I think the only instructions I found where in the SPD/Cleat pedal leaflet (Shimano) on using pliers to pull the rubber cover off.

    it sticks in place AFAIK

just use some araldite, that should hold it in place
