Truvativ 5D Granny Ring

Did Follow The Dog at Cannock at the weekend. When I was washing all the cr4p off at the end, I noticed I'd lost 2 of the chainring bolts that fasten the granny ring to the crank arm. Fair enough. But, I've just come back from LBS with two new bolts, but the holes no longer line up properly (and I've tried every combination front and back).
Now I can't remember bashing the bike significantly, so bewildered how I've managed to mis-shapen the granny ring. Can they easily be re-shaped?
As a side issue, LBS said Middleburn rings are direct replacements for Truvativ. True or false??
